An Iowa man could face up to two years in jail and a $5,000 fine if convicted of animal abuse after allegedly giving a puppy vodka.
Jared Levi Colony, 28, of Iowa City was pet sitting a 4-month-old Puggle pup, Pip, for a friend last week when he poured UV brand vodka into the dog’s bowl and encouraged him to drink, the Press Citizen reports.
When the puppy’s owner returned about 30 minutes later, Pip was unresponsive, his tongue hanging out and barely breathing.
According to police, Colony’s response to the horrified dog’s owner was, “Pip’s just a little drunk right now.”
Pip received critical care for two days at Bright Eyes and Bushy Tails veterinary hospital and barely survived alcohol poisoning, police said.
It was unclear how much vodka Colony had given the puppy.
